Artist Gouache has been used for centuries for works on paper and it used to be the mainstay of graphic artists colouring tools. It is also known as posterpaint due to it's flat and even consistency suitable for straight edge styles. However there are some magnificent examples of the traditional techniques being thrown out the window ie Australian Artist Fred Williams.
Gouache is not waterproof allowing the artist to re-wet the paint and work back into it. Generally opaque, it may diluted for transparent effects. Gouache dries quickly to a velvety matt finish.
